Breakup Wine

When Ali and Kathleen graduated college, the economy had crashed, they were looking for jobs, living at home and going through breakups. Kathleen would enter the Hoban house at night, bottle of wine in hand, and head straight up to Ali’s room. According to Dad’s recollection, he would hear a “pop!” then “glug, glug, glug”…with bursts of crying/laughing peppered in between. It’s one of my favorite stories! Dad also says he would take them to Lucky’s diner and they would cry into their creamed chipped beef. Sad at the time, but a classic Hoban tale now.
